Individual Therapy

My main modalities when working with individual clients are: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Systems Theory, and Mindfulness techniques.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:

CBT is a practical therapy model that provides clients with clear and direct strategies towards activating change. CBT is most effective towards decreasing anxiety and depression. By acknowledging, processing, and reconstructing our thoughts and feelings, we can turn towards more congruent ways of behavior that meet our goals.

Systems Theory:

Systems Theory allows a holistic view to mental health. Through a systemic lens, I consider the varying conditions, environmental factors, and relational impacts that a client may be experiencing. By understanding these factors, and how the systems around us are interconnected, we are able to increase awareness of ourselves and our mental health.

Mindfulness :

Mindfulness, in short, is a practice of awareness towards our mind and body without judgment, but acceptance. Mindfulness is an evidence based coping strategy that can help increase congruence towards self, and decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression. Mindfulness is a core principal of my therapeutic approach, and one I believe to be most effective in implementing change.

My approach:

I believe that individual therapy is an opportunity to explore ourselves with curiosity and non-judgement. I believe that therapy is collaborative, and ultimately YOUR space. I am warm and direct. I utilize humor, and I value and prioritize your individual and unique goals.

In our first session together, I will ask questions to get to know you better. I want to understand your goals, what you need support with, and what is also feeling good in your life.

Our initial sessions will typically be focused on identifying narratives, thoughts, and feelings that you have about yourself, your relationships, and the systems around you. Through mindfulness techniques and cognitive behavioral therapy; we will work on increasing awareness, acceptance, and non-judgement in order to reframe and better the relationship you have with yourself and others. However, this is just a general idea of what our sessions could look like. I work with each of my clients differently; and what works for one person, may not work for someone else!
